HISTORY OF POETRY In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and God is the word (genesis 1:1) What we call poetry today was derive form a Greek word poesies. The history of poetry started before, and after Adam the father of all creature develop the act of communication, the one we refer to as the oldest occupation. A lot of people have been saying that history of poetry can not be traced. I can say this was right .due to lack of adequate research work as at that time. According to M.J Murphy in one of his books titled “understanding unseen poetry him state and me quote “A poet is a person who usually more sensitive than most to the sights sound and sensation of the world around”. God calling upon the angel in the book of genesis saying, “come and let Create man in our own image so they become king upon the land that we have created”. Since any poetry word is to make a change to the earth and the entire world as the word of God has made the shapeless world an attractive one we should say poetry is a word from God throne. Poetry come after man have sin against his will, for human being not to die and live in eternal glory his word also come here saying in book of genesis 2 “ for thou have eaten from the fruit of knowledge of evil and good you are cursed”. This curse cause a change in God will for men .since any poetic word is a word that make a change we can call the curse a poetic word. Also the behaviors of Adam and Eve here came more sensitive and sensational which means with out word there is no poetry, and without poetry there will be nothing like earth or curse on human race over God almighty is the supreme king that own all. Also history of poetry was also proved some theological books i.e. in the book of Samuel 2:1-5 where Hannah render a jubilant poem, to God almighty on how he does his work. Evidence was also found in job 3:1-26 (where he talks about God as a king that does everything with a certain purpose. In the bible, will can say the most poetic part of it is songs of David (book of psalm a lyrical poem that was sang in a panegyric way) and songs of Solomon (a conversation between King Solomon and a pretty girl).where he also render a love poem to a woman in a dialogue and other theological book that I can not mention. King Solomon:14 “my beloved is a bouquet of flowers in the gardens of Engedi. 15 how beautiful you are, my love, how beautiful your eyes are soft as doves’ 16 what a lovely pleasant you are lying here upon the grass, shaded by cedar trees and firs. The girl: 2:1 I am rose of Sharon, the lily of valley King Solomon: 2 “yes, a lily among thorns is my beloved as compared with other girls. The living bible paraphrased copyright 1971 The book of Solomon 1:14-16, 2:1-2 Every reader must believe that scientifically, according to research in the study of Aristotle juxtaposition of history and poetry proved that any attempt to create a scientific history will surely turn to poetry. That is to say, every knowledge we gather either from human, his environment, and imagination, and we wish to express will surely turn into poetry. As life continue after the paradise lost and the resurrection of the Vine came some great poet like William shakesphere, E.T Elliot, Alfred.E.houseman, wole Soyinka, Niyi Osundare,my father, and others .As long as the world still remain the world poetry will never die, for poetry is life and everyday action either by insane or sane. DIFFERENT TYPE OF POEM Ballad: this is a type of poem that is transfer from mouth to mouth, and also the first style in poetry. Sonnet: it is a 14 (fourteen) line poem. it is divided into two called octave (the first eight lines) and sestet (the last six line of the poem). Lyric: this type of poem is a poem that can be sang as a song example is twinkle, twinkle little star. Lullaby: this is a poem that is sang to pacify a baby. Dizain: this is a ten lines poem. Didactic: this type of poem teaches moral, example of a didactic poem is, “how to plough not to plunder of Niyi Osundare.
