Love..What a Word December 16, 2009
LOVE....what a word. So many meanings. So many feelings when we hear that one word. So many visions of it in so many ways. Visions of faces, times, places, all a part of our memory. LOVE. Never has four little letters done as much for mankind, for civilizations, history and the hope of a future for all of humanity. LOVE. Some say that it is an ACTION word. Some think that it is only a word. Some use it as if it has no meaning, when in fact the word does not necessarily dictate the intent of using the word. We say "I love you" and yet really have no concept of the depth of that word. It has a different meaning for each individual based on their journey of life. Based on personal experiences, upbringings, beliefs, this word LOVE can develop into many behaviours that are far from the word. The way we display LOVE also varies from one to another. We each have our own ideas of Love and how it is shown to another, or to ourselves for that matter. Love in the purest form comes from within each of us first.....the simplest yet most difficult forms of love is to oneself. Without love for oneself, it is difficult to fully give to another. Notice I said "fully". We give to others often in an attempt to make "ourselves" feel better about who we are. Instead of learning to accept ourselves and all of our frailities and weakness, we compensate, justify and deny the very core of our humanity..being human. The love that is often beaten down within us gets buried amongst the muck of our lives, especially for those who have suffered much. However, with the great sufferings of this life, we gain wisdom and with that wisdom we learn how to love above and beyond our pain. This should come as no surprise for it has been the same throughout recorded history. I would venture to say that even before history was "recorded" as we know it, the same can be said. Love has always been, always will be, and even in this time of history being created as I write, love is prevelant throughout the earth and all of creation. We fail to see it however allowing, like our hearts throughout our lives, let the suffering cover it up. Pain is a very powerful weapon that can destroy love, if we allow it too. Instead of embracing the pain and letting it make us stronger to love again; we let it harden our hearts so that we will close any opporutnities that come along, to love again. There are many different types of love. My Grandfather told me that "even puppy love, is love". How true is that? Do you remember being infatuated, or having a crush, or puppy love? Even just a passing rush of butterflies at the very possiblity of falling in love. It is all part of our humaness. Love is from God. The feelings associated with love are as well. Why do we try to explain away all of the good things in this life because "religion" has hidden the truth of our God given hearts and desires? When we truly love God first, we can then love others as we have been commanded to do. Love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Above all things, love God and HIS unconditional Grace, will empower us to love everyone else with a Godly love. Love covers up the sins and heals our hearts from any pain we have been blessed to endure. What doesn't kill us, only makes us stronger. The strength that will overcome all obstacles. Trust in love for it is from God. Forgiveness is the key to finding that love which is within us, often deeply hidden, but still there. I love you. Written by Warriorwoman 11/28/09

Fragrance of Worship February 19, 2006
The scripture relating to Mary of Bethany, according to Mark 14:3 - 9, shares an event of true worship. Jesus was having dinner in the house of Simon the leper. This is taking place just days before HIS crucifixion. As they dine, a woman comes in with an "alabaster jar" containing perfume that is worth a "full year's wages". The woman opens the jar, or "breaks" it as other scriptures say, and pours it upon the head of Jesus. I would believe that she did not just "pour" it, but that she caressed and massaged it into his body preparing it for burial. Now if you see this with "flesh eyes", the spirit of lust will undoubtedly come into your mind, however I encourage we see with "spiritual eyes". This message will take on a whole new meaning... Mary of Bethany was not doing this out of lust, or to tempt the Lord in any way. She was displaying a true act of worship to HIM. The heart of Love was being displayed to all those around her, but more importantly to the Lord she so deeply Loved. As she worshipped Jesus with all that she had, including a jar of ointment, that the others pointed out, could have been "sold and the money given to the poor", Mary was unaware of the harsh words spoken to her. It did not matter what the others thought, what they were saying, or that they were indignant toward her. The King James version states that "they were indignant within themselves". This is a statement that seems very clear of where their behavior came from. They were concerned about the worth of the perfume, It wasn't their perfume but they became indignant that Mary was "wasting it", suggesting that it could be sold to help the poor. This gift that Mary gave was more then just perfume. It was the most valued possession she had. It was not the perfume that was important in this story, but Mary's attitude. She was in such awe of Jesus that it did not matter what the other's said to her as she "poured" the fragrance over HIM. It was the heart of worship toward Jesus that brought HIM to speak highly of her to the others. It was her total committment to the intimacy of this act regardless of the cost to herself. She did this out of pure awe and honor to her Lord. That is a heart of worship.
